Mandatory Module: IMNCI

The IMNCI (Integrated Management of Neonatal and Childhood Illness) theory module is an online learning component designed to provide nursing students with foundational knowledge for assessing, classifying, and managing common illnesses in neonates and children under five. This module emphasizes early identification, integrated care, and evidence-based interventions in pediatric health. Core topics include:

  • Systematic assessment of sick neonates and children
  • Classification of illnesses based on signs and symptoms
  • Identification of danger signs and referral protocols
  • Counseling caregivers on feeding, home care, and follow-up
  • Use of IMNCI charts and decision-making algorithms

Through interactive e-learning, case-based learning, and multimedia resources, students will gain the skills needed to deliver comprehensive, child-focused care in both facility and community settings. The theoretical foundation laid in this module will be further reinforced through simulation-based and clinical training, enabling students to contribute effectively to reducing child morbidity and mortality through informed, integrated care.
