COVID-19 Warriors

Healthcare workers carry a significant burden of coronavirus infections worldwide, but new evidence shows the rate can be lowered with the use of personal protective equipment combined with proper training in infection control and COVID-19 guidelines.

The impact of COVID-19 on infected healthcare workers can pose a transmission risk and they can't work if they become infected, and maintaining healthcare capacity throughout the pandemic is important. Researchers point out evidence suggesting that lowering the rate of infection among healthcare workers must also include adequate training and education to ensure workers use the equipment properly and must have thorough knowledge about the disease.

“Training related to COVID-19 is important; it's not just about providing the equipment, but helping healthcare workers understand how they need to use it. Training and education were consistently associated with decreased risk of infection." On the other hand, managing mental health and psychosocial well-being during this time is as important as managing physical health. The evidence shows heightened stress and anxiety among nurses caring for patients. Nurses should get prepared both in clinical skills as well as in managing psychological impacts.

This course provides a framework to understand about the latest standardized information that is known about the identification, care and prevention of COVID-19, skills for infection prevention and control practices during care of COVID-19 patients to prepare the nursing students to become a “Warrior” in an uncertain war against COVID-19.
