Aging is associated with a variety of physiological changes leading to the decrease in reserve capacities and progressive decline in physiological homeostasis, both of which lead to alterations in organ functions, functional decline, multi-morbidity, and frailty. Advanced age leads to an alteration in respiratory physiology, age related organ changes, comorbidities, geriatric syndromes, frailty, malnutrition, functional dysfunction and, polypharmacy, all of which affect the prognosis of geriatric patients with infectious diseases in critical condition.
