Safety and Precautions

Infection prevention and control nurses have an extremely wide remit in relation to the facilitation of practice of hand washing and use of PPE for appropriate infection prevention and control practice within a healthcare environment. An infection control  nurse must follow the CDC guidelines on hand hygiene, proper donning and doffing of PPE. The principle behind PPE is that all body fluids, secretions, blood, body excretions, except sweat may be capable of transmitting infection. As per MOHFW-India COVID-19 is primarily a droplet-transmitted infection, with indirect transmission through fomites / contaminated surfaces / objects. The standard precautions on use of PPE, as per the risk profile must be used. A healthcare worker must possess knowledge and skills regarding the use and removal of the PPE.
