Emergency nursing is a specialty area where nurses care for patients in the emergency and are the first point of contact for patients. Emergency nurses have many job responsibilities which start from an emergency site to the recovery or transfer of patients. An emergency nurse must be skilled at rapid, accurate physical examination, early recognition of life-threatening illness or injury, the use of advanced monitoring and treatment equipment and follow standing orders. Emergency nurses must have a sound knowledge of legal and ethical issues of emergency care and also must have clinical competence and the ability to work independently when required, for example in triage, initiating investigations, and when actively involved in resuscitation.
