Hematologic disorders are the most common disorder encountered in an intensive care unit. The hematologic disorders include thrombocytopenia, anemia, and less commonly, evaluation of leukocytosis and thrombocytosis. Coagulopathies are very prevalent in intensive care unit patients due to their underlying conditions. In this lesson, we will learn about principles of blood transfusion and blood disorders with the associated nursing management.

Topics

  1. Assessment of the hematopoietic system
  2. Blood transfusion
  3. Care of patients with DIC
  4. Care of patients with acute disorders of the white blood cell
  5. Care of patients with acute disorders of the red blood cell
  6. Care of patients with acute disorders of the platelets/thrombocytes
