Comprehensive geriatric assessment has been defined as a multi-disciplinary evaluation in which the multiple problems of elderly are uncovered, described, and explained, if possible, and in which the resources and strengths of the person are catalogued, needs for services assessed, and a coordinated care plan developed to focus on interventions of the person’s problems. Assessment of the impact of illnesses and the aging process in an older person’s physical, emotional, spiritual, and social functioning is a critical component of the provision of appropriate health care. Functional impairments and cognitive and affective problems are particularly prevalent among elderly patients, and can be improved with early recognition and treatment.
At the end of the lesson you will be able to understand:
- Principles of Functional Assessment
- Principles of Cognitive Assessment
- Principles of Systematic Assessment
- Nursing Assessment
