A detailed nursing assessment of a specific body system(s) which relates to the current signs and symptoms or other current concerns. Nursing staff should utilize their clinical judgement to determine which elements of a focused assessment are pertinent for their patients. A nurse should consider the age and developmental stage of the patient and implement behaviors that show with respect to the patient’s age, gender, cultural values and personal preferences.
At the end of this topic, a nurse will be able to demonstrate proper assessment techniques of the:
- Neurological system
- Cardiovascular system
- Respiratory system
- GI/GU system
- Musculoskeletal system
