Burn wounds and injuries can have severe long-term consequences for victims. Initial care and prompt treatment of burn injuries significantly impacts healing, outcomes, function and appearance of the skin. An emergency nurse must have knowledge and skills to screen the burn site immediately because appropriate treatment for a burn patient depends upon the type and severity of a burn. An emergency nurse should follow the Right Care, Right Time, Right Place principle for emergent care of burn patients. It is vitally important that the proper treatment be given quickly and at the right facility. Knowing how to properly triage, treat and transport patients is crucial for an emergency nurse.
