Although the value of breastfeeding is well understood, there are many barriers that can make it difficult for women to start and continue breastfeeding. Barriers to breastfeeding are a lack of knowledge, misconception that formula is equivalent to breastfeeding, poor family and social support, embarrassment in public and lactation problems.
Barriers can be overcome by educating a mother about expressing breast milk, relactation, importance of sustain breastfeeding, enhancing the confidence in a lactating mother and removing her misconceptions about breastfeeding.
