The most important care for musculoskeletal injury is pain management. A trauma nurse must perform treatment which is  limited to reducing movement because movement aggravates pain and inhibits healing. The nurse must follow RICE –

PRICE – Protection, Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation

HI-RICE – Hydration, Ibuprofen, Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation

PRICES – Protection, Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation, and Support

PRINCE – Protection, Rest, Ice, NSAIDs, Compression, and Elevation

RICER – Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation, and Referral

POLICE – Protection, Optimal Loading, Ice, Compression, and Elevation
