Emergency nurses must be prepared to assess and manage patients at a site with any type of emergency. An emergency nurse must have knowledge and understanding in

  1. Identify types of injuries (nuclear, radioactive, biological, chemical and explosive)
  2. Mechanism of injury
  3. Nature of illness
  4. Managing cases at a site
  5. Prepare patients for transportation to the hospital
  6. Maintain the privacy of patients
  7. Recognize life-threatening conditions
  8. Head-to-toe examination
