The airway is the most important priority in the management of patient care. Early recognition and appropriate management of an injured patient’s airway and ventilation can prevent death from any airway problems. It is essential to open and to clear the airway to allow free access of air to the distal endobronchial tree. Airway and ventilation assessment of life-threatening injuries is done simultaneously with the immediate institution of life-saving interventions.
At the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand:
- Obtain airway and ventilation assessment
- Identification of airway injuries
- Airway and ventilatory management
- Use of airway adjuncts
