If you’re ever in a situation to perform CPR on an adult, activate the emergency response team first before starting CPR. Check for a carotid pulse and then begin CPR with chest compressions. Push hard and fast on the center of the chest at a rate of 100-120 compressions per minute. The compression depth for adults should be at least two inches and the chest should recoil completely between compressions. CPR should not be interrupted for more than 5 seconds. Remember to use the ratio of 30 compressions to two rescue breaths. Use an AED, if one is available.

At the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

  • Understand principles of scene safety for an adult victim
  • Understand principles of adult CAB
  • Demonstrate chest compression for an adult victim
  • Demonstrate breathing pattern for an adult victim
  • Demonstrate use of an AED
