Hands on Practice Stations

Pre-designed scenarios were acted-out in the simulation lab, where the participants had an opportunity to enact the roles with moulage patients. With interactive and practical sessions conducted by professionals, participants received valuable input on innovative and efficient techniques, hands-on experience and practice in a simulation lab with high-fidelity mannequins, expert lectures, and much more. Participants got the feel of real-life scenarios with moulage patients and high-fidelity simulator.   


Observations and Findings

Pre-self assessments and post-self assessments were conducted for the participants and the results showed a high impact of training


Feedback

Feedback was taken from all the participants and the feedback showed that hands on practice sessions help in understanding the concepts in a better way. Experience with moulage patients made the training more realistic.

Stroke - Act F.A.S.T

Vidyanta Skills Institute conducted a one-day Workshop (DNC accreditation No-24)

The objectives were:

- Understand the pre-hospital stroke assessment

- Differentiate between hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke

- Know how to use NIHSS scale 

- Understand different management modalities of stroke

- Rehabilitation of stroke patients


The target audience was practicing nurses and nurse educators involved with ER and ICU. Twenty-seven (27) nurses from the following hospitals attended:

Hands-on Practice Stations

Hands-on Practice stations were arranged in view of transforming Brain-Power to Hand-Power using mid-fidelity mannequins and educational handouts. Various stations were arranged for hands-on practice of NIHSS, CPR, airway management, and thrombolytic drugs.


Observations and Findings

Pre-test and post-test were conducted for the nurses and the test report shows that the there was an improvement in knowledge of nurses from 26% to 87%.


Feedback 

Feedback was taken from the nurses and the feedback showed that the workshop was effective and useful for the practicing nurses in their day-to-day clinical life.

Hands-on Practice Stations were arranged in view of transforming Brain-Power to Hand-Power using mid-fidelity mannequins and educational handouts. Various scenarios were given to the delegates and group wise they were called to demonstrate the scenarios.

 

Observations and Findings

Pre-tests and post-tests were conducted for the faculty and post graduate students and the test report shows that there was an improvement in understanding about simulation technology and need of newer technology in training. There was an improvement in knowledge from 18% to 94%.


Feedback 

Feedback was taken from all the attendees of workshop and the feedback showed that the workshop was effective and useful for the students and faculty to adapt the new technique of simulation in education.

Trauma Care Nursing

There were individual skill stations on helmet removal, splint application, use of cervical collar, use of spine board, airway management, etc.

Pre-tests and post-tests were conducted for the nurses and the test report shows that there was an improvement in knowledge of nurses from 32% to 91%.

Various stations were arranged for hands-on practice of ECG, CPR, airway management, cardiac drugs, algorithm of tachycardia, bradycardia and cardiac arrest.

 

Observations and Findings

Pre-tests and post-tests were conducted for the nurses and the test report shows that there is an improvement in knowledge of the nurses from 22% to 91%.


Feedback 

Feedback was taken from the attendees and the feedback showed that the workshop was effective and useful for the practicing nurses in their day-to-day clinical life. Self-assessment tools were given to the nurses before and after the workshop to check the effectiveness of two-day workshop and improvement in self-confidence level in performing nursing procedures and managing during cardiac emergencies.

EXCHANGE NURSING PROGRAM WITH NYACK SCHOOL OF NURSING, USA

UNDERGRADUATE BSN MED-SURGICAL STUDENTS

  

Eleven (11) students along with Dr. Elizabeth Simon, Dean from Nyack School of Nursing, New York, attended training at Vidyanta Skills Institute to support the student nurse’s transition to professional practice from 10 Jan 2018 to 13 Jan 2018. 


Introduction to the Capstone Practicum Adult Health Alteration III NURS 493: Adult Health Alteration III has a 84 hour capstone clinical experience designed to support the student nurse’s transition to professional practice. In this course the student works with an individual registered nurse to gain clinical competence and skills in organization, prioritization and time management. Emphasis is placed on refining nursing process skills in an acute care setting. The practicum provides an opportunity for the student to enact professional nursing practice and develop confidence in providing nursing care to a group of patients. Students are exposed actual situations where they can implement standards of care, application of evidence, professionalism, and safe and legal practice. 


Course objectives: 

A. In classroom and simulated situations, the student will: 

1. Gain independence in holistic assessment, planning and management of the nursing care of groups of clients with complex health care problems.

2. Using Carper’s four ways of knowing, implement nursing care based on evidence to deliver care to a variety of clients with complex health problems.

3. Synthesize information from previous courses to develop and implement nursing care to select groups of clients.

4. Establish proficiency in organization, prioritization and delegation of appropriate care to clients assigned. 

5. Demonstrate use of therapeutic communication to collaborate with members of a multidisciplinary team to establish best care for client.

6. Develop a synthesis paper of a select health topic from an actual clinical scenario using evidence from research literature.

7. Analyze weekly case studies for discussion in seminars. 

8. Use information literacy skills to develop assignments. 


Practicum: This practicum experience for the senior students is for 84 hours. Each hospital will have 2-3 students in any adult health floor such as Med-Surgical floor, any ICU settings, or ER. 

A staff nurse with BSN with at least 3 years of experience work with the senior students. Students can have scheduled days and work on those days according to the floor's shift. Or students may schedule his/her days when a designated RN is scheduled. Students will complete 7 (12 hour) shifts or 11(8) hour Shifts. An instructor will be visiting occasionally and will be available if needed. They can do everything what an RN does under the supervision. They will take the full assignment of the RN.
