Understanding cardiac rhythms is critical for gaining knowledge and skills in rapidly recognizing cardiac rhythm on a cardiac monitor. The classification of a cardiac rhythm depends on its origin – sinus or atrial rhythm.  The different rhythms (arrhythmia) may be caused by many different factors, including:

  • Coronary artery disease (CAD)
  • Electrolyte Imbalances
  • Changes in heart muscles
  • Ischemia
  • Healing process after surgery

At the end of this lesson, you will  be able to understand:

  • Morphology of sinus and atrial rhythms
  • Origins of various rhythms from the sinus and atrium
  • Identification of ECG rhythms
  • Classification of rhythms
