This chapter provides standards, policies and procedures that guide the availability, safe storage, prescription, dispensing and administration of medications. The standards guide pharmacy for audit medication processes. A healthcare facility should have a mechanism to ensure that emergency medications are standardized throughout the organization, readily available and replenished in a timely manner. The guidelines focus on a strict monitoring mechanism to ensure that the required medications are always stocked and well within expiry dates.
