Since time immemorial the human species has been fed and nurtured by mother’s milk. As the normal continuum from pregnancy, through birthing, breastfeeding is the bond that sustains the mother-baby relationship and provides the perfect nutrition, immunological protection and optimal physical and neurological development during the early years of a baby’s life.
Scientific research has shown us the critical importance of breastfeeding. It is irreplaceable as a way to feed children. Its intricate composition both protects and nourishes; its capacity to perfectly match growth and development needs make it an irreplaceable way to feed babies. Breastfeeding is vital for child survival and also important for a mother’s health. Breastfeeding contributes positively to the nation’s economy, employers, families and communities. Health professionals recommend that breastfeeding begin within the first hour of a baby’s life and continue as often and as much as the baby wants.
