Emergency nurses are responsible for providing high-quality emergency care to their patients. They are undoubtedly confronted with specific ethical obligations that arise out of the unique features of emergency nursing practice, so they should be familiar with ethical codes of conduct and the essentials of ethical decision making. The principles express fundamental moral responsibilities of emergency nurses, such as must respond promptly and expertly, without prejudice or partiality, to the need for emergency medical care, shall communicate truthfully with patients and secure their informed consent for treatment, shall respect patient privacy and disclose confidential information only with consent of the patient and shall work cooperatively with others who care for, and about, emergency patients.
