Emergency nurses must be prepared to assess and manage patients at a site with any type of emergency. An emergency nurse must have knowledge and understanding in
- Identify types of injuries (nuclear, radioactive, biological, chemical and explosive)
- Mechanism of injury
- Nature of illness
- Managing cases at a site
- Prepare patients for transportation to the hospital
- Maintain the privacy of patients
- Recognize life-threatening conditions
- Head-to-toe examination
